The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Great Henny sits on top of a headland with commanding views over the Stour Valley. The two lower stages of the tower are late 11th or 12th century: the rest of the church was rebuilt during the  middle 14th century. Look for the carvings of mediaeval musicians on the roof beam ends. The pair nearest the chancel are a priest with incense censer, and possibly a deacon with the incense box. Two demons guard the chancel.

St Mary's is a registered Small Place of Pilgrimage.

The parish of Great Henny: St Mary is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Chelmsford's safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs.
